Zachary Jackson Jr. Arrested for killing of Beloved Retired Educator Lana Bradley

NATCHEZ, Miss. — Authorities have made an arrest in connection with the tragic homicide of Lana Brown Bradley, a retired educator and highly respected member of the Adams County community. The development comes just a day after deputies initially responded to what began as a welfare check and quickly escalated into a serious criminal investigation.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the case began on April 4, 2026, when deputies were dispatched to a residence on Melanie Road in Natchez. What started as concern for Bradley’s well-being soon turned into a missing person case and, ultimately, a homicide investigation as evidence pointed to a far more troubling situation.

Within approximately 24 hours, investigators identified 29-year-old Zachary Lavel Jackson Jr. as a suspect and took him into custody. Authorities confirmed that Jackson has been formally charged with first- and second-degree murder, mayhem, and tampering with physical evidence. Officials also noted that the suspect is related to the victim’s family, though specific details about that relationship have not been released due to its sensitive nature.

Sheriff Travis Patten praised the swift and coordinated efforts of deputies, investigators, and the Special Operations Group. He emphasized that quick response times, careful preservation of the scene, and thorough witness interviews played a critical role in developing the case and securing charges in such a short timeframe.

The investigation also received support from several agencies and community partners, including the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Team and the Adams County Coroner’s Office. Additional assistance from local organizations and civilians who provided key information helped move the case forward rapidly.

While the arrest marks a significant step, officials stress that the investigation remains active and the legal process is only beginning. Authorities are asking the public to keep the Bradley family in their thoughts and prayers and to respect their privacy as they mourn the loss of a beloved educator whose impact on the community will not be forgotten.
