18-Year-Old Ta’nyah Pittman killed in Fatal Rollover Crash in Robeson County

The Robeson County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 18-year-old Ta’nyah Lynn Pittman, a Fairmont High School student whose life was tragically cut short in a deadly rollover crash Saturday evening. Family members, classmates, teachers, and friends are now grieving the sudden death of a young woman whose future was only beginning, leaving deep sorrow throughout the Fairmont area.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the crash on Lizzie Road near Iona Church Road, west of Fairmont, shortly after the incident occurred. First Sgt. S.B. Lewis said investigators determined that a 2013 Kia was traveling westbound on Lizzie Road when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. Authorities reported that the car then struck a ditch before overturning multiple times in a violent rollover.

Following the crash, the Kia eventually came to rest upside down in a nearby field. Troopers identified Ta’nyah Lynn Pittman as the front-seat passenger in the vehicle. Investigators said Pittman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was partially ejected through the vehicle’s sunroof during the rollover. Emergency personnel with Robeson County EMS responded quickly to the scene, but despite their efforts, Pittman was pronounced dead at the location due to the severe injuries she sustained.

Authorities said the driver of the Kia survived the crash but suffered serious injuries. The driver was airlifted to McLeod Regional Medical Center for emergency medical treatment. Officials have not publicly released the driver’s identity as the investigation continues. Troopers also confirmed that charges are pending while investigators work to fully determine the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
