RAYMOND, N.H. — A large-scale and rapidly evolving law enforcement operation is underway in Raymond, New Hampshire, as authorities search for an armed suspect who allegedly fired multiple rounds, injuring a police officer before fleeing the scene. The situation has prompted a multi-agency response and heightened concern across the region.
According to early reports, the incident began shortly after 3:00 p.m. when officers responded to a call involving a barricaded and armed individual. During the encounter, gunfire erupted, and one officer was struck in the leg. Officials later confirmed the injury is non-life-threatening, and a medical helicopter that had been requested was ultimately canceled.
The suspect, identified as Matt Masse, fled the scene on foot around 3:14 p.m., triggering an immediate and expansive manhunt. Authorities deployed SWAT teams, K-9 units, and multiple armored vehicles, while establishing a staging area near Route 27 and Ham Road. Reports of additional gunfire and sightings of an armed individual intensified the response as officers worked to track the suspect’s movements.
By mid-afternoon, the search had grown significantly, with aerial and ground resources fully engaged. Drones operated by local police and New Hampshire Fish and Game were deployed, and a New Hampshire State Police helicopter joined the effort, scanning wooded and residential areas. Law enforcement also investigated reports of a person running near Route 101 and searched marshland and nearby roads in an effort to contain the suspect.
Authorities expanded the perimeter throughout the evening, shutting down roads within an estimated two-mile radius and urging residents to remain indoors. A command post was established, and at one point, the suspect’s mother reportedly arrived to speak with officials. Despite extensive efforts, Masse remains at large, and the search continues to shift across multiple locations.
Law enforcement officials are urging residents in Raymond and surrounding communities to stay vigilant, shelter in place, and report any suspicious activity immediately. The situation remains active and fluid, with authorities continuing to dedicate significant resources to locating the suspect and ensuring public safety.
