Jeremiah Lockhart Charged in Deadly Shooting of Zaden Bratsos in Chesterfield County

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — A tragic case that has weighed heavily on a small community has taken a significant turn, as authorities have taken a 17-year-old into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy. The heartbreaking incident has left families grieving and residents searching for answers.

According to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, Jeremiah J. Lockhart, 17, of Pageland, turned himself in to authorities and was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Officials say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

The victim, identified as Zaden C. Bratsos, 16, also of Pageland, was killed on March 28, 2026. Authorities clarified that earlier reports had incorrectly listed his age, confirming that he was just 16 years old at the time of his death. His loss has left a deep void in the community, especially among those who knew him.

Sheriff Cambo Streater addressed the case, stating that it has deeply impacted the community. He praised investigators and deputies for their tireless work in bringing the suspect into custody, calling it an important step toward justice. At the same time, he acknowledged the immense pain being endured by Zaden’s family.

The Sheriff’s Office also expressed gratitude to residents who provided tips and support throughout the investigation, as well as to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for their assistance.
