The Harrah community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 19-year-old George Gouldsby, who died following a tragic jet ski crash on Thursday evening at Lake Thunderbird, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The sudden accident has left family, friends, and residents in deep shock as they try to understand how a routine evening on the water turned into a fatal tragedy.
Troopers said the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the Hog Creek area of the lake. Gouldsby, a resident of Harrah, Oklahoma, was riding a WaveRunner with a 20-year-old passenger from Oklahoma City when the watercraft entered a sharp curve. The sudden maneuver caused both riders to be thrown violently into the water.
Authorities reported that after being ejected, Gouldsby did not resurface. Witnesses quickly alerted emergency crews, and a large-scale search operation was launched across the area. Boats, divers, and rescue teams worked through the evening and into the night as hopes remained high for a recovery.
The passenger was pulled from the lake by a bystander on shore and later transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that he survived and is expected to recover from his injuries, though the incident has left him deeply shaken by what happened on the water.
Search efforts continued until Friday morning, when a dive team located and recovered Gouldsby’s body. Officials confirmed that neither Gouldsby nor his passenger was wearing a life jacket at the time of the crash, a detail investigators say is an important part of the ongoing review.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including water conditions and speed at the time of the crash. As Harrah mourns this devastating loss, the tragedy serves as a painful reminder of how quickly recreational outings can turn fatal, leaving a community grieving a young life cut far too soon.
