SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane community is mourning the tragic loss of Drake Britton, who died Tuesday afternoon following a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck towing a horse trailer on U.S. Route 2 south of Colbert, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Authorities said the fatal crash occurred around noon near Carney Road at milepost 299 along Highway 2. Initial reports from investigators indicate the collision involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports of severe injuries connected to the crash.
Responding agencies included local emergency personnel and a LifeFlight helicopter, which was dispatched due to the seriousness of the incident. Despite emergency response efforts, Washington State Patrol later confirmed that the motorcyclist, identified as Drake Britton, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
The crash caused major traffic disruptions throughout the area as authorities shut down portions of the highway to allow investigators and emergency crews to safely work at the scene. Officials initially closed the northbound lanes of Highway 2 south of Colbert while troopers documented evidence and attempted to determine how the collision occurred.
