Father, Devonelle Brimage Killed While Holding Infant in Plymouth Overnight Shooting

A quiet neighborhood in Plymouth was shattered by gunfire early morning, leaving one man dead, another injured, and an infant caught in the middle of the violence. The tragic shooting has left residents stunned as investigators work to uncover what led to the deadly incident.

According to local authorities, police responded to reports of gunfire around 1:30 a.m. on Latham Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered two adults inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds, along with an 8-month-old child who was also present at the scene.

The victim who lost his life has been identified as 36-year-old Devonelle Brimage. Officials say he was pronounced dead at the scene. In a heartbreaking detail, Brimage was reportedly holding his infant child at the time of the shooting, making the tragedy even more devastating for the family and community.

A second adult, identified as 38-year-old Avione Webb, was found injured in the rear seat of the vehicle. Emergency responders rushed both Webb and the baby to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment. Webb was later transferred to ECU Health Medical Center, while the infant, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, has since been treated and released.

Louis Banks confirmed that Brimage lived at the residence connected to the incident. The child’s mother told investigators that her husband had been holding their baby when the shooting took place, a detail that has deeply shaken those following the case.

Authorities, including the State Bureau of Investigation and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, are assisting in the ongoing investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine the circumstances behind the shooting.
