In Loving Memory of Charles Cooper

Aiken County, South Carolina, is mourning the sudden loss of 64-year-old Charles Cooper, who died Tuesday afternoon following a tragic crash that investigators believe was triggered by a medical emergency behind the wheel. The incident has left family, friends, and the local community in shock as they come to terms with how quickly an ordinary drive turned into a fatal tragedy.

According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 2:19 p.m. on May 19 along Columbia Highway North near Beaverdam Road. Officials said Cooper was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram southbound when he is believed to have suffered a sudden medical emergency while still operating the vehicle.

Investigators report that shortly after the medical event began, the truck veered off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a utility pole and overturned. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and provided immediate assistance, but despite their efforts, Cooper was pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m.

Two passengers were also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. One passenger was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. The condition of the second passenger has not yet been publicly released by authorities as of the latest update.

Officials say the crash remains under active investigation, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol working alongside the Aiken County Coroner’s Office to determine the full circumstances. The exact cause of death is still being evaluated as investigators piece together medical and crash evidence from the scene.

As the investigation continues, the tragedy has left a deep sense of sorrow in the Aiken County community. What began as a routine afternoon drive ended in heartbreak, serving as a painful reminder of how unpredictable medical emergencies can be and how quickly they can lead to devastating consequences on the road.
