A tragic shooting on Indianapolis’ far east side has left a family mourning the loss of a young man and another community shaken by violence. Authorities say 31-year-old Quinton Sanders is now facing a preliminary murder charge after police allege he fatally shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend during a confrontation early Sunday morning along James Run Way.
According to court documents, the events leading up to the deadly shooting began when Sanders was reportedly inside a vehicle with his ex-girlfriend. Investigators say an argument between the two escalated, with Sanders allegedly taking the woman’s phone and forcibly pulling her from the vehicle. Police said the woman’s current boyfriend repeatedly called her during the incident, concerned about her safety and whereabouts.
Authorities say Sanders eventually drove the woman home, but tensions remained high once they arrived at the residence. Court records state that the woman told Sanders she was afraid of him and no longer wanted him around. As she walked toward the victim’s vehicle, investigators allege Sanders suddenly ran up behind her and fired multiple shots through the car window, striking the victim inside.
The victim was later identified as Za’Sean Davis of Indianapolis. Loved ones describe Davis as someone well known within the local community. It was also shared that he attended Arsenal Technical High School, where many people knew him and are now grieving his sudden and tragic death. His passing has left family members and friends devastated as they struggle to process the loss of someone whose life ended far too soon.
Police officers responded quickly to the scene and were able to stop Sanders as he allegedly attempted to leave the area. He was taken into custody without further incident. During questioning with detectives, Sanders reportedly said, “I am not a bad person… I’m not no monster or anything.” Despite the statement, investigators continued gathering evidence surrounding the deadly encounter.
Sanders has since been booked on a preliminary murder charge, though prosecutors are expected to make the final charging decision as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, another Indianapolis family is left grieving a heartbreaking loss that has forever changed their lives. As authorities continue piecing together the moments that led to the fatal shooting, loved ones of Za’Sean Davis are remembering a life taken too soon and hoping for justice in the days ahead.
