18-Year-Old Tyree Smith fatally shot Inside Chicago Restaurant in Englewood

A deadly shooting in Chicago has left an 18-year-old man dead and the Englewood neighborhood reeling. The fatal attack occurred Wednesday afternoon, sparking fear and anger in a community already concerned about gun violence. The victim has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Tyree Smith, also known as “Big Black.” According to police, the shooting took place at approximately 4:18 p.m. on April 1, 2026, near the intersection of West Marquette Road and South Wentworth Avenue, an area that includes a Shell gas station and several nearby businesses.

Chicago Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area and arrived to find Smith inside a local restaurant, identified as Fisherman’s Island. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The sudden violence has left family, friends, and neighbors grieving the loss of a young life full of promise.

Preliminary police reports indicate that Smith was standing inside the restaurant when four armed individuals exited a vehicle and opened fire.
