The Stanly County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 34-year-old Tiffany Mauldin following a devastating head-on collision late Wednesday night on U.S. Highway 52. Her sudden passing has left family members, friends, and loved ones grieving an unimaginable loss as authorities continue investigating the tragic crash that unfolded near the Northeast Connector.

According to officials, emergency personnel were dispatched around 11 p.m. on May 27, 2026, after reports of a serious two-vehicle collision involving vehicles traveling in opposite directions. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found catastrophic damage caused by a violent head-on impact. The crash prompted a major emergency response as crews worked quickly to assist those involved and secure the area along the busy highway.

Investigators with the Albemarle Police Department say preliminary findings indicate that a vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 52 crossed over the center line before colliding head-on with a southbound vehicle. The force of the crash caused severe damage to both vehicles and left one driver fatally injured. Authorities later identified the deceased victim as Tiffany Mauldin, 34, of Stanly County. Despite efforts by emergency responders, Tiffany was sadly pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of her injuries.

The driver of the southbound vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Officials have not yet released additional information regarding that person’s condition. Meanwhile, investigators remained at the crash site for several hours documenting evidence, examining the wreckage, and reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision. Portions of U.S. Highway 52 were impacted as crews cleared debris and worked to restore traffic flow.

As the investigation continues, authorities have not released further details regarding possible contributing factors in the crash or why the northbound vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic. Detectives are continuing to review evidence and speak with potential witnesses in hopes of gaining a clearer understanding of the moments leading up to the collision.

For loved ones, however, the focus remains on mourning the loss of Tiffany Mauldin, whose life was taken far too soon. Family and friends are remembering her not for the tragedy that ended her life, but for the memories, love, and impact she shared with those around her. The Albemarle Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have additional information to contact investigators at 704-984-9500 or Stanly County Crime Stoppers at 704-982-0711.
