CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Authorities in Chesterfield County are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a 32-year-old man dead Tuesday morning. The incident has drawn attention as officials work to determine the full sequence of events that led to the fatal encounter.
According to Chesterfield County Police, officers were dispatched around 9:45 a.m. on April 7 to the 4000 block of Frye Terrace following reports of a disturbance involving a weapon. A caller told dispatchers that an adult male was on their property holding a long gun and yelling, creating a tense and potentially dangerous situation.
The caller also reported that the armed individual approached the front door at one point before returning to his own residence as officers were en route. When police arrived, they began searching the area and soon located the suspect at his home. Officers identified themselves and made contact as they assessed the situation.
Authorities say the man, later identified as Tamondrick J. Burroughs Jr., was standing in the doorway of his residence armed with a rifle. During the encounter, investigators determined that Burroughs allegedly brandished the weapon and pointed it toward officers. In response, one officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect, who then retreated back inside the home.
Officers quickly secured the area and established a perimeter around the residence while additional resources responded. A drone was deployed to safely assess the situation inside the home. During the aerial search, Burroughs was found unresponsive on the floor. Officers later entered the residence and confirmed that he had died.
No officers were physically injured during the incident. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in such cases. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Chesterfield County Police Department or Crime Solvers as they continue to review the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
