39-year-old Steven Goodnight Killed in Head-On Collision on Highway 177

GARVIN COUNTY, Okla. — A tragic head-on collision early Sunday morning has claimed the life of a Wanette man and left another driver injured, as authorities continue investigating the devastating crash along U.S. Highway 177. The incident has left the community shaken as officials work to determine what led to the fatal encounter.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions on the highway. Troopers reported that a northbound vehicle driven by 39-year-old Steven J. Goodnight crossed the center line for reasons that remain unclear. Moments later, the vehicle collided head-on with a southbound vehicle, resulting in a violent impact.

The second vehicle was driven by 52-year-old Michael L. Martin of Oklahoma City. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and immediately began providing aid to both drivers. The severity of the crash required urgent medical attention, with both individuals suffering significant injuries from the collision.

Authorities confirmed that Goodnight sustained critical injuries and later died as a result of the crash.
