A heartbreaking tragedy in Jefferson County has claimed the life of a young man after he reportedly fell into the water from a boat in Chaumont Bay on Friday afternoon. The sudden loss of 21-year-old Ryan J. Cloe has left family members, friends, and the local community mourning a life taken far too soon.
According to the New York State Police, troopers from SP Watertown responded to Chaumont Bay in the village of Chaumont on May 15, 2026, at approximately 2:50 p.m. after receiving reports of a person falling into the water from a small aluminum boat traveling in the bay. Emergency crews quickly rushed to the scene as search efforts began across the water.
Several agencies assisted in the emergency response, including the Chaumont Fire Department, Cape Vincent Ambulance, the Jefferson County STAR Team, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
