The Albany, Georgia community is in deep mourning following a tragic crash that claimed the lives of a 26-year-old man and a 4-year-old child on Saturday night. The devastating incident has left families heartbroken and residents shaken, as details emerge about what led to the deadly collision.
According to the Albany Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 9:41 p.m. on March 21, 2026, in the 1900 block of Krug Street. Authorities say the incident has been linked to alleged drag racing involving two vehicles speeding along the roadway at the time.
Investigators reported that the two vehicles were racing when one of them lost control. The out-of-control vehicle then crashed into multiple cars, creating a chaotic and dangerous scene. Emergency responders rushed to the area as the severity of the crash became clear.
Officials confirmed that Rickey Thomas, 26, and a 4-year-old child sustained severe injuries in the collision. Despite efforts to save them, both victims were pronounced dead due to the injuries they suffered. Two other individuals were also injured but survived, with authorities describing their injuries as non-life-threatening. They were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
Police identified one of the drivers involved as 24-year-old Brandon King. A second driver, 25-year-old Jacob Daniels Jr., fled the scene immediately after the crash but later returned and was taken into custody. Authorities say both individuals are believed to have been actively involved in the racing that led to the deadly crash.
Brandon King has been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, as well as reckless driving and racing on a highway.
