The Marana community is mourning after a tragic incident on Monday, May 25, left 36-year-old Mikaela Durfey and 37-year-old Brian Schnurr dead in what authorities have confirmed is being investigated as a murder-suicide. The heartbreaking case, which unfolded near Silverbell and Cortaro in the Tucson area, has deeply affected residents and left many grieving for the family’s two young children, who were fortunately found physically unharmed during the terrifying ordeal.
According to the Marana Police Department, officers responded around 5 p.m. to a home in the 6700 block of West Alegria Drive after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered Mikaela Durfey deceased in the driveway of the residence. Authorities confirmed she had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The shocking discovery immediately launched a large police investigation as detectives began working to understand what had happened.
Investigators quickly identified Durfey’s ex-husband, Brian Schnurr, as the suspect and began searching for him and his vehicle, a blue Dodge Challenger.
