Four Killed After Car Slams Into Tree and Sinks Into Pond in Seneca County

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A tragic late-night crash has claimed the lives of four young people, leaving families and communities in deep shock and sorrow. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Thursday night, March 26, 2026, near Tiffin in Seneca County, and is now being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the Norwalk Post responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. along State Route 18 near County Road 48. When emergency crews arrived, they discovered a badly damaged vehicle that had crashed into a tree before ending up partially submerged in a nearby pond.

According to early reports, the car—a Ford Focus—was being driven by 19-year-old Hermoiney Greenler of Bucyrus. Investigators say the vehicle was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control, causing it to leave the roadway. The car then struck a tree with great force and slid into the water, turning a routine drive into a deadly crash.

Greenler was pronounced dead at the scene, along with two passengers, Madison Yates, 21, and Jonathan Bowling, 22, both from Tiffin. First responders worked quickly to reach the victims, but the impact of the crash was severe, leaving no chance of survival for the three occupants.

A fourth passenger, Alexzandria Hickle, 22, of Tiffin, was found in critical condition and rushed by ambulance to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, she later died from her injuries. Authorities reported that Hickle was the only person wearing a seatbelt, while the others were not restrained.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation. The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine the exact cause. Authorities are urging all drivers to stay alert, follow traffic laws, and always wear seatbelts to help prevent such devastating losses.
