The St. Tammany Parish community in Louisiana is grieving the tragic loss of 47-year-old Jessica G. Cannatella of Ponchatoula, who died following a devastating two-vehicle crash on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The heartbreaking incident has left family, friends, and neighbors mourning a life taken too soon, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to Louisiana State Police, troopers from Troop L responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m. on LA Highway 1085 near Alice Street in Covington. What they found was a serious head-on collision that had caused major damage to both vehicles and left multiple people injured. Emergency responders quickly worked to assist those involved.
Preliminary findings show that Cannatella was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee southbound when a 2014 Nissan Murano traveling northbound crossed the center line. The Nissan then collided directly with Cannatella’s vehicle in a violent head-on crash. The force of the impact caused severe injuries and brought traffic in the area to a halt.
Authorities say Jessica Cannatella was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she later died from her injuries, leaving behind grieving loved ones and a community in shock.
The driver of the Nissan Murano, identified as 38-year-old Holly M. Williams of Abita Springs, was wearing a seatbelt and sustained moderate injuries. She was also taken to the hospital for treatment. A front-seat passenger in the vehicle, who was not restrained, suffered moderate injuries as well.
State Police reported that Williams showed signs of impairment at the scene and was placed under arrest. Authorities say she is expected to be booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Facility after her release from the hospital, facing charges including vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, and driving while intoxicated. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are reminding drivers to avoid impaired driving and always wear seatbelts to prevent tragedies like this.
