40-year-old Jesse Nicolas Struck by Multiple Vehicles While Crossing Road in Maryland

A heartbreaking early morning crash has left the community of California in mourning after a 40-year-old man was killed in a devastating hit-and-run incident on April 10, 2026. Authorities say the victim, identified as Jesse San Nicolas, lost his life after being struck by multiple vehicles while attempting to cross a busy roadway.

According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 2:26 a.m. in the 22700 block of southbound Three Notch Road near Town Creek Drive. Deputies responded after receiving several 911 calls reporting a pedestrian lying in the roadway, prompting an urgent emergency response.

When first responders arrived, they found San Nicolas unresponsive in the southbound lanes alongside a bicycle. Firefighters immediately began CPR in an effort to save his life until emergency medical personnel took over. Despite those efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a tragic and somber moment for all involved.

Preliminary investigations reveal that San Nicolas was attempting to cross the roadway when he was struck by more than one vehicle. Authorities confirmed that a 2016 BMW 528i, driven by a 21-year-old man from Waldorf, remained at the scene following the collision. However, a second vehicle involved fled immediately after striking the victim.

Investigators believe the fleeing vehicle is a dark blue or black Dodge Caravan, likely from model years 2011 to 2020, and may have visible front-end damage. Officials also clarified that one vehicle initially thought to be involved was actually driven by a witness who stopped to call 911 and assist after the crash.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team has taken over the case and is actively seeking information from the public. All southbound lanes of Three Notch Road were closed for hours as investigators processed the scene. Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen the suspect vehicle or has information to come forward as they work to bring justice in this tragic case.
