MILPITAS, Calif. — A tragic act of violence has left a community grieving after a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during a fight near Milpitas High School on Tuesday afternoon. The shocking incident has raised concerns among residents, parents, and school officials about safety in the area.
According to the Milpitas Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:50 p.m. to the 240 block of Vienna Drive following multiple reports of a fight involving several teenagers. Witnesses described a chaotic and fast-moving scene that quickly escalated beyond control.
Several witnesses reported that around 10 teens, many dressed in black, were involved in the altercation. The situation became increasingly violent, drawing attention from nearby residents. In a desperate attempt to stop the fight, a teacher who was driving past reportedly stopped and rushed in to intervene before police arrived.
When officers reached the scene, they found a teenage boy suffering from apparent stab wounds. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save his life, he later died from his injuries. The victim was identified as Jarred Cavan, a 17-year-old from Milpitas.
Authorities have confirmed that another teenage boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing. While officials have not released further details about the suspect or possible charges, the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to understand what led to the deadly confrontation.
In addition to the fatal stabbing, a 16-year-old girl was also injured during the fight and taken to a hospital for treatment. Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
