A quiet neighborhood in Fort Worth was shaken by gunfire early Thursday morning, leaving a juvenile boy dead in what authorities believe may be a drive-by shooting. The tragic incident has sparked concern among residents as police work to uncover what led to the deadly violence.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers from the South Division were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. on April 2, 2026, to the 6700 block of Glenbrook Lane after receiving reports of shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a young male inside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was later identified as James Washington. Emergency crews from the Fort Worth Fire Department quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in a desperate effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, James was pronounced dead at approximately 2:22 a.m., leaving family and loved ones devastated.
Preliminary information suggests the shooting may have been a drive-by attack, though police say many details remain unclear. Detectives are actively working to piece together what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting, including identifying any suspects and determining a possible motive.
Homicide detectives have since taken over the case and are following several leads. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an examination to officially determine the cause and manner of death, which will provide further clarity as the investigation continues.
In a public statement, the Fort Worth Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward, stressing the importance of community support in solving violent crimes. Authorities say tips from the public can play a key role in bringing justice and preventing future tragedies. The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
