Tuscarawas County, Ohio, is mourning the loss of 66-year-old Jack Lineberry of New Philadelphia after a tragic motorcycle crash on Saturday evening claimed his life. The sudden and unexpected accident has left family, friends, and the community in deep sorrow as they try to come to terms with the devastating loss.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m. on State Route 800 near Froman Hill Road in Fairfield Township. Lineberry was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound when he approached a vehicle that had slowed down to make a right turn.
In an attempt to avoid colliding with the vehicle, Lineberry swerved to the left of center. Tragically, this maneuver caused him to lose control of the motorcycle, sending it off the roadway and into a guardrail. The impact left him critically injured at the scene, creating a dangerous and chaotic situation for responders.
Emergency crews arrived quickly to provide urgent care. Due to the severity of his injuries, Lineberry was airlifted by medical helicopter to Summa Health System’s Akron campus. Despite the dedicated efforts of medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Summit County Coroner’s Office. Multiple agencies, including Mineral-Sandy EMS, Mineral City Fire Department, Smith Ambulance, MedFlight, and Finlayson Towing, assisted at the scene, highlighting the seriousness of the crash.
Investigators have reported that alcohol and drugs are believed to be contributing factors in the accident. Authorities also confirmed that Lineberry was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which likely contributed to the severity of his injuries. The incident remains under active investigation as officials work to determine all contributing circumstances.
