A tragic shooting in Alvin has led to the arrest of 23-year-old Eric Olvera, who is now facing a murder charge in connection with the death of 18-year-old Emad Siddiqui from Sugar Land. Authorities say Olvera was taken into custody Monday night without incident and is currently being held without bond as the community struggles to process the violent loss.
According to the Alvin Police Department, the incident began late on April 2, 2026, around 10:29 p.m. Officers were dispatched after a 911 caller reported that his friend had been shot while they were traveling along State Highway 35. The urgency of the call prompted a swift response from law enforcement and emergency crews.
When officers arrived in the 3100 block of S.H. 35, they located the vehicle described by the caller. Inside, they found Siddiqui in the back seat suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in a desperate effort to save his life, but sadly, he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators soon uncovered that the shooting did not occur on the highway but at a convenience store about a mile south of where Siddiqui was found. Authorities believe the incident stemmed from a previously arranged vehicle trade between Siddiqui and Olvera. What was meant to be a routine exchange reportedly turned into a deadly confrontation.
Following the shooting, Olvera was initially considered armed and dangerous, prompting police to urge the public to come forward with any information about his whereabouts. After several days of investigation, officers were able to locate and arrest him without further incident, bringing some relief to a shaken community.
The case remains under active investigation as detectives continue to gather evidence and piece together the full story behind the fatal encounter. Meanwhile, family and friends of Emad Siddiqui are left mourning a young life cut short, as the community reflects on how a simple meeting ended in tragedy.
