A devastating early-morning crash in Brevard County, Florida has left a community mourning after a 24-year-old man from Rockledge was killed in a chain of events involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 95. Authorities say a 49-year-old woman, identified as Cynthia Willis of Palm Coast, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following the incident.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 1:05 a.m. on Monday along southbound I-95, just south of State Road 528. The young man was driving a 2018 Infiniti Q50 in the center lane when, for reasons still being investigated, his vehicle suddenly left the roadway and moved onto the inside paved shoulder.
Investigators reported that the Infiniti then struck a guardrail with significant force, causing severe damage to the vehicle and scattering debris across the highway. The impact was so strong that pieces of the car were left in the roadway, creating a dangerous situation for oncoming traffic.
Moments later, a 2026 Volkswagen Taos traveling behind the crash site, driven by Cynthia Willis with her 4-year-old passenger inside, struck the debris left behind by the initial collision. Authorities say neither Willis nor the child suffered physical injuries in the crash.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after multiple calls reporting a serious collision on the highway. Despite their efforts, the driver of the Infiniti was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. His identity has been confirmed as a 24-year-old man from Rockledge, though his name has not yet been released publicly in the report.
Following a preliminary investigation, troopers determined there was probable cause to arrest Willis on charges of driving under the influence. She was taken into custody and later booked into the Brevard County Jail as the investigation continues.
