HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas — Authorities in Hopkins County are continuing to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at a residence in the northern part of the county following what investigators described as a confrontation at the home. The incident has left the community searching for answers as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased victim as Buck Clary, who later died after being shot during the incident. Deputies and emergency personnel responded to the residence after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers secured the scene while investigators began gathering evidence and speaking with individuals connected to the case.
According to authorities, investigators reviewed footage captured by a Ring doorbell camera that reportedly documented key moments leading up to the shooting. Officials stated that the video appears to show Clary approaching the front door of the residence while yelling and striking the glass portion of the door during the confrontation.
Investigators said the footage indicates Clary allegedly broke part of the glass door and reached inside the home. Authorities reported that during the confrontation, the homeowner discharged a firearm through the front door, striking Clary. The exact sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active review as investigators continue examining all available evidence.
Following the shooting, Hopkins County EMS transported Clary to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, authorities confirmed that he later died from his injuries. The Justice of the Peace officially pronounced him deceased following the incident.
