A tragic act of violence has claimed the life of 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells of Waldorf, leaving family, friends, and the wider community in deep shock and grief. The fatal shooting, which happened late Sunday night, March 22, 2026, has been described by authorities as a senseless incident that escalated quickly and ended in heartbreak.
According to the La Plata Police Department, the incident began around 10:25 p.m. near the intersection of La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata. Two witnesses flagged down officers and reported that they had been inside a vehicle when an argument broke out. During the dispute, the driver, identified as 27-year-old Dayton James Webber, allegedly shot Wells, who was seated in the front of the car.
Investigators say Webber later stopped near Radio Station Road and Llano Drive and asked the witnesses to help remove Wells from the vehicle. The witnesses refused, exited the car, and left the scene. Webber then fled, leaving with the victim still inside the vehicle. Authorities noted that all individuals involved were known to one another, adding another layer of shock to the case.
Nearly two hours later, a resident in the 10000 block of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall called 911 after discovering a body in their yard. Responding officers confirmed the victim was Wells, matching the earlier description. He was pronounced dead at the scene, bringing a devastating end to the search.
As the investigation intensified, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Webber. Authorities tracked his movements through his cell phone and the white 2022 Tesla he was driving, which reportedly had a broken passenger window. Law enforcement agencies across Maryland and Virginia, including those in King George, Spotsylvania County, and Charlottesville, worked together to locate him.
Webber was eventually found around 3 a.m. Monday at a hospital in Charlottesville, where he had gone for medical treatment. After being released, he was arrested by the Albemarle County Police Department and charged as a fugitive from justice. He is now awaiting extradition to Maryland, where he will face charges including first-degree murder. As the case continues, loved ones mourn Wells’ loss, remembering him for the life he lived while hoping justice will be served.
