SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — A tragic motorcycle crash in eastern Pennsylvania has claimed the life of 53-year-old James Paul Lake of Barnesville, leaving family, friends, and the local community mourning a heartbreaking loss. Authorities say the fatal single-vehicle collision happened Wednesday afternoon in Blythe Township along Mountain Road near Tumbling Run Road.
According to Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred at approximately 4:26 p.m. on May 13, 2026. Investigators reported that Lake was operating a 2023 Triumph Tiger motorcycle while traveling through the Tamaqua area when the devastating incident unfolded. Troopers said the motorcycle approached a curve where Mountain Road bends to the left before Lake reportedly lost control of the bike.
Police stated the motorcycle overturned while navigating the curve and traveled across the roadway before coming to rest along the right shoulder. Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the crash and found Lake suffering from serious injuries. Authorities confirmed that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven EMS transported Lake to Lehigh Valley Medical Center East in Pottsville, where hospital staff attempted lifesaving measures. Despite those efforts, officials confirmed that Lake later died from injuries sustained in the crash. His death has left many in the Barnesville and Tamaqua communities saddened as loved ones struggle to process the sudden tragedy.
Investigators have not yet determined what caused Lake to lose control of the motorcycle. State police have not released information regarding whether speed, mechanical issues, road conditions, or a possible medical emergency may have contributed to the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the collision, according to authorities.
Mountain Road remained active with emergency crews and investigators for an extended period Wednesday afternoon as officials documented evidence and examined the scene. Pennsylvania State Police continue investigating the fatal crash and said additional details may be released as the investigation progresses. Meanwhile, those who knew James Paul Lake are remembering him not for the tragedy that took his life, but for the memories, friendships, and moments he shared with those around him.
