A night meant for students to gather and unwind turned into a scene of horror in Sarnia after a fatal shooting at Lambton College left one man dead and two others injured. The tragic incident has shaken the campus community and prompted an ongoing homicide investigation.
According to the Sarnia Police Service, officers were called just before 1:00 a.m. Friday to the campus bar, known as the Lions Den, following reports of gunfire during a student-run event. What should have been a lively gathering quickly turned into chaos as shots rang out.
When officers arrived, they found three individuals suffering from injuries, including one person in critical condition. The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Dane Nisbet, a resident of Sarnia. He was rushed to Bluewater Health, where he later died from his injuries, leaving behind a grieving family and community.
Nisbet was well known in local sports circles, having played hockey for the Mooretown Flags and the North Middlesex Stars in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. His death has deeply impacted not only those on campus but also members of the local hockey community who remember him as a dedicated and talented player.
The two other victims sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and were treated at a local hospital. Authorities have confirmed that no arrests have been made, and investigators are currently searching for multiple suspects believed to be involved in the shooting. It remains unclear whether the victims were students at Lambton College.
In response to the tragedy, Lambton College announced the closure of its Sarnia campus for Friday, April 10, suspending classes and services while offering counseling and wellness support. Police continue to investigate the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward as the community mourns a life lost in what has been described as a senseless act of violence.
