Truck Driver Eldar Mamedov killed in fatal I-40 Crash in Gray County

GRAY COUNTY, Texas — A tragic early morning crash along Interstate 40 has claimed the life of 52-year-old Eldar Mamedov, leaving loved ones in mourning and highlighting the dangers of highway travel. The devastating collision occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 21, turning a routine journey into a fatal tragedy.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at approximately 2:49 a.m. when two semi-trucks traveling eastbound became involved in a serious rear-end collision. What began as a quiet drive on a largely empty highway quickly escalated into a catastrophic event.

Authorities reported that a 2018 Freightliner truck towing a semi-trailer and a 2015 Volvo truck towing another trailer were both heading in the same direction. Investigators say the driver of the Volvo failed to control speed and struck the rear of the Freightliner’s trailer, leading to a violent impact.

Eldar Mamedov, a resident of Louisville, was driving the Volvo at the time. Officials confirmed that although he was wearing a seatbelt, it had been used improperly. Due to the force of the crash and the improper restraint, he was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner, 62-year-old Dicklous Mathwai of Riverside, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover, a stark contrast to the fatal outcome of the crash.

As the investigation continues, the loss of Eldar Mamedov weighs heavily on those who knew him. Beyond the details of the accident, he is remembered as a man with a life, relationships, and a story that extended far beyond the highway. His passing serves as a somber reminder of how quickly lives can change and the importance of safety on the road.
