Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Car in Palm Beach County

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A quiet Sunday night ended in tragedy in Palm Beach County after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a busy roadway. The deadly crash happened late in the evening, leaving one man dead and prompting an investigation by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

According to deputies, the incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Haverhill Road near Vilma Lane. Investigators said a vehicle was traveling northbound along the roadway when the driver suddenly noticed a pedestrian crossing the street ahead. With little time to react, the driver was unable to avoid a collision.

The pedestrian was identified as 48-year-old Werner Sanchez-Gomez. Authorities said he was struck by the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, but Sanchez-Gomez was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Sheriff’s officials have not released details about where Sanchez-Gomez was crossing or whether he was using a crosswalk at the time of the crash. It is also unclear if speed, lighting conditions, or visibility played a role. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators, according to authorities.

The crash caused traffic delays in the area as deputies closed portions of Haverhill Road to conduct their investigation. Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the area while investigators examined the vehicle, roadway markings, and surrounding conditions to determine exactly how the deadly collision unfolded.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident and has not announced whether any charges will be filed. Deputies are reminding both drivers and pedestrians to stay alert, especially at night when visibility is reduced. The death of Werner Sanchez-Gomez marks another heartbreaking reminder of how quickly lives can be lost on local roads.
