EL PASO, Texas — Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Thursday night at a busy East El Paso intersection. The collision claimed the life of a 53-year-old woman and led to a multi-agency response as investigators worked to determine what caused the crash.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 8:36 p.m. on February 5, 2026, to a reported two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Eastlake Boulevard and Blingwood Street. When deputies arrived, they found both vehicles heavily damaged and one person suffering from critical injuries. Due to the severity of the crash, Special Traffic Investigators (STI) were called to take over the investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that a silver Audi was traveling westbound on Eastlake Boulevard when a blue Nissan SUV, heading eastbound, attempted to make a left turn onto Blingwood Street. Authorities said the Nissan failed to yield the right of way, causing the two vehicles to collide in the intersection.
A 53-year-old woman, later identified as Virginia Striplin of El Paso, was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff, she later died from her injuries. Officials confirmed that Striplin’s next of kin has been notified. No additional fatalities were reported.
The crash caused temporary traffic disruptions in the area as deputies secured the scene and investigators documented evidence. Motorists were advised to avoid the intersection while the roadway was partially closed during the investigation. Authorities have not released details regarding the condition of the other driver involved.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been announced at this time. Officials continue to review evidence, including vehicle damage and witness statements, to determine whether any citations will be issued. Authorities are reminding drivers to use caution at intersections and to always yield the right of way to help prevent tragic accidents like this one.
