Authorities in Philadelphia are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 35-year-old man Wednesday evening. Police have identified the victim as Vaswani Brown, who lived on the 14XX block of Levick Street. The tragic incident has left residents in the area shaken as detectives work to determine what led to the fatal gunfire.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, officers from the city’s 2nd District responded to a radio call at approximately 7:09 p.m. on March 4. The call reported a person with a gun in the 12XX block of Magee Avenue. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and began searching the area for the individual mentioned in the report.
When police reached the location, they discovered Brown lying on the roadway. Authorities said he had suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso and was unresponsive when officers found him. The scene quickly turned urgent as officers worked to provide immediate help and secure the area for emergency responders.
Officers transported Brown to Jefferson–Torresdale Hospital in an attempt to save his life. Medical personnel rushed to provide treatment, but despite their efforts, Brown’s injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 7:47 p.m., less than an hour after the initial emergency call was made.
Investigators processed the scene and began collecting evidence that could help explain the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police confirmed that a handgun with an extended magazine was recovered at the scene. Authorities said the firearm was registered to Brown, though investigators have not yet clarified how it may have been connected to the shooting itself.
Detectives with the Philadelphia Police Department are continuing to examine evidence and speak with potential witnesses. At this time, officials say the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests have been made. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as investigators work to uncover what happened and bring answers to the victim’s family and the community.
