BESSEMER, Ala. — A late-night shift turned deadly Sunday after a 19-year-old man was shot and killed inside an Amazon fulfillment center in Bessemer, authorities confirmed. The shocking incident has left coworkers shaken and prompted a homicide investigation by local police.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Tyler Neil Alexander, 19, of Birmingham. Officials said Alexander died after suffering gunshot wounds during a reported assault at the Amazon Fulfillment Center located at 975 Powder Plant Road. The shooting occurred around 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, during overnight operations at the facility.
According to the coroner, emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting was reported. Despite their efforts, Alexander was pronounced dead at 11:03 p.m., just over 20 minutes after the incident. Authorities have not said whether he was an employee, contractor, or visitor at the facility, nor have they released information about what led up to the shooting.
The death is officially being investigated as a homicide, the coroner’s office confirmed. The Bessemer Police Department is leading the investigation but has not yet released details about a suspect, possible motive, or whether anyone has been taken into custody. It is also unclear where inside the massive warehouse the shooting occurred.
Police have remained tight-lipped as detectives work to piece together what happened inside the fulfillment center.
