SHREVEPORT, La. — Authorities have identified the man who died following a violent single-vehicle crash early Friday morning on Interstate 20. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed that Tremaine Jones, 33, of Shreveport, lost his life in the crash, which occurred during the early hours of Friday, January 30, 2026.
According to officials, the crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. as Jones was traveling westbound on Interstate 20. Investigators said his vehicle exited the interstate onto Linwood Avenue under unclear circumstances. Moments later, the vehicle struck a concrete overpass column with significant force.
The impact caused the vehicle to flip, leaving it severely damaged. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, but Jones had suffered fatal injuries. Authorities said he was pronounced dead at the scene and did not survive the violent crash.
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office said Jones was positively identified using government-issued identification. His death has been ruled a traffic fatality. Officials have not released information about whether Jones was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash or if speed played a role.
The Shreveport Police Department is leading the investigation into what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. At this time, investigators have not said whether weather conditions, mechanical failure, or driver error may have contributed to the crash. The area was temporarily affected as crews worked to clear debris and document the scene.
As part of the investigation, toxicology tests have been ordered, a routine step in fatal crash cases. Results from those tests are pending and could help determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor. Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released once the case is complete. Authorities are reminding drivers of the dangers of late-night travel and urging motorists to remain alert and cautious, especially during overnight hours when road conditions and fatigue can increase the risk of serious crashes.
