Authorities in Harris County are investigating a deadly confrontation that unfolded Friday night in a quiet residential neighborhood in Spring. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), two men lost their lives following an encounter with another individual who claims he acted in self-defense during a tense and escalating situation. Deputies were called to the 22100 block of Greengate Drive after reports of gunfire and a disturbance. When first responders arrived, they found two men suffering from severe injuries. One victim died at the scene, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, he later passed away. Authorities have identified the deceased men as 57-year-old Timothy Underwood and 59-year-old Keith McDonald, both of whom lived in the area. Their families have been notified as the investigation continues.
According to information released by HCSO, the man who fired the shots told deputies that Underwood and McDonald had followed him in their vehicle prior to the deadly encounter. He reported noticing their car trailing him for an extended period. When they reached Greengate Drive, the two men allegedly used their vehicle to block his path, preventing him from driving further. Investigators say all three individuals exited their vehicles at that point, and what followed led to the tragic outcome.
The shooter explained to investigators that once they were outside their vehicles, an altercation began immediately. He claimed that the two men started kicking him and striking his vehicle, creating a situation he believed put him in danger. According to his statement, the confrontation escalated quickly, and he felt he had no choice but to defend himself. Deputies confirmed that he stayed at the scene afterward and cooperated fully with responding officers.
At this stage of the investigation, no charges have been filed, and the man who discharged the weapon has not been detained. HCSO emphasizes that this is standard procedure while detectives gather complete information.
