Authorities have identified the man who was found dead inside a Dauphin County home on Wednesday morning, launching a homicide investigation in the city of Harrisburg. Police say the victim was discovered inside a residence on North 18th Street, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement and the county coroner.
According to Harrisburg Bureau of Police Captain Kyle Gautsch, officers were called to the home around 11 a.m. after receiving a report of a deceased person. When officers arrived, they found a man unresponsive inside the residence. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene as investigators began securing the area for further examination.
The Dauphin County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 58-year-old Terence Dudley of Lower Paxton Township. An autopsy revealed that Dudley suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. The coroner officially ruled the manner of death a homicide, confirming that Dudley’s death was the result of a violent act.
Captain Gautsch said the case remains under what he described as a “very active investigation.” Detectives are continuing to gather evidence, interview potential witnesses, and work to determine the circumstances that led to Dudley’s death. At this time, police have not released details about a possible suspect or a motive.
No arrests have been made, and authorities have not said whether Dudley was known to the person or persons responsible for the shooting. Investigators have also not disclosed whether there were signs of a struggle inside the home or how long Dudley may have been deceased before he was discovered. Police say they are being cautious about releasing information to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Officials are asking anyone with information that could help investigators to come forward. Even small details, police say, could be important as detectives work to piece together what happened inside the North 18th Street home. As the investigation continues, authorities say additional updates will be released when more information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to police as the case moves forward.
