Tekeya McCollum killed in Fatal Shooting Inside Walnut Hills Apartment in Cincinnati

Cincinnati police have identified a woman who was shot and killed Tuesday evening inside an apartment building in the Walnut Hills neighborhood. The deadly incident has left residents shaken and investigators searching for answers as the city continues to grapple with ongoing gun violence. Authorities say the shooting happened inside a residential building, turning a familiar space into a scene of tragedy.

The victim was identified as 31-year-old Tekeya McCollum. Police said she suffered fatal injuries after being shot inside an apartment building in the 2600 block of Park Avenue. Officers confirmed that McCollum did not survive the attack, marking another homicide under investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department.

According to Lieutenant Jerome Herring, officers were dispatched to the area around 6:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Patrol units quickly arrived at the scene and began searching the building to locate the source of the shots. During that search, officers made a grim discovery.

Police found McCollum suffering from a gunshot wound in a stairwell inside the apartment building. Emergency Medical Technicians were called to the scene and immediately attempted life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, McCollum was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No other victims were reported.

The Cincinnati Police Criminal Investigation Section has taken over the case and is working to piece together what led up to the shooting. Investigators are examining the scene, collecting evidence, and speaking with anyone who may have been in or near the building at the time of the gunfire. At this stage, authorities have not released details about a possible motive.

Police said there are currently no suspects in custody, and no arrests have been made. It is unclear whether McCollum knew the person responsible for the shooting or if the incident was targeted. Officers are urging residents in the area to remain vigilant and to share any information that could help move the investigation forward.

The death of Tekeya McCollum adds to the growing number of homicide cases in Cincinnati this year, a troubling trend that continues to impact families and neighborhoods across the city.
