DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham community and law enforcement agencies across the state are grieving the tragic loss of Master Trooper Steven J. Perry, who was killed Sunday in a devastating head-on crash on the Durham Freeway near the Swift Avenue exit. The respected officer was on duty at the time of the collision, which occurred along N.C. 147.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Trooper Perry’s patrol vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver. The violent impact claimed the lives of both Trooper Perry and the other driver involved.
