ROANOKE, Va. — A quiet Sunday morning in Northwest Roanoke turned tragic when a 56-year-old woman was shot and killed outside a convenience store. The Roanoke Police Department confirmed that officers responded to the 1600 block of Burrell Street NW after receiving reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds outside the store. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the victim as 56-year-old Kimberly Sue Lee. Her death has left family members, friends, and members of the community in deep sorrow.
Police reported a heavy law enforcement presence in the area as investigators worked to gather evidence and speak with witnesses. Patrol vehicles and crime scene tape surrounded the location for several hours as officers searched for the person responsible. By 2:40 p.m., officers announced that a man had been located and taken into custody in connection with the shooting. In a later update at 4:45 p.m., police confirmed that 26-year-old Sincere Elijah Hardy had been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in Lee’s death.
Police Chief Scott Booth praised the swift action of officers and the cooperation of the community. “The swift and coordinated efforts of our staff, combined with the invaluable support of our community through calls and investigative cooperation, led to the successful apprehension of the suspect,” Booth said. He also expressed sympathy, noting that Mrs. Lee was a well-known presence along Orange Avenue and extending heartfelt condolences to her loved ones.
