KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — A tragic workplace accident has claimed the life of a young man in Kershaw County, leaving family members, coworkers, and the local community in mourning. Authorities say the man was electrocuted while working at a well-drilling site Tuesday evening in the Bethune area.

The Kershaw County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 25-year-old Sheldon Moree. According to Coroner David West, the deadly incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. during an industrial well-drilling operation. Emergency responders were called to the scene after reports that a worker had been seriously injured.

Officials said Moree was electrocuted while on the job, though specific details about how the electrocution occurred have not yet been released. When first responders arrived, they found Moree suffering from fatal injuries. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities confirmed.

The accident happened in the Bethune area, a rural part of Kershaw County. Workplace accidents involving heavy equipment and electrical hazards are considered especially dangerous, and investigators are working to understand the conditions present at the site at the time of the incident. No other injuries were reported.

The Kershaw County Coroner’s Office is actively investigating the death alongside the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA officials will examine whether safety protocols were followed and if any violations or hazardous conditions may have contributed to the fatal accident. Their findings could take weeks to complete.

As the investigation continues, Moree’s death serves as a painful reminder of the risks faced by workers in industrial and construction-related jobs.
