ANKENY, Iowa — Authorities have identified the woman found dead inside an Ankeny apartment earlier this week, as police continue to investigate a deadly domestic incident that has shaken the community. The discovery was made Monday morning after officers were asked to check on the welfare of a resident.
According to the Ankeny Police Department, officers were dispatched to an apartment on NE Crestmoor Place for a welfare check. When officers entered the apartment, they discovered a woman deceased inside the residence. Police said the victim appeared to have suffered a stab wound, prompting an immediate homicide investigation.
The woman was later identified as 30-year-old Sharon Jellue of Ankeny. Officials confirmed that she died as a result of her injuries. Investigators secured the apartment complex as evidence was collected and neighbors were questioned while police worked to determine what led up to her death.
Following the investigation, police arrested 32-year-old Johnson Chayee Browne of Ankeny. Browne has been formally charged with murder in connection with Jellue’s death. Authorities said Browne and Jellue were long-time live-in partners, adding a tragic domestic element to the case.
Neighbors in the area described the incident as deeply disturbing, saying police activity filled the apartment complex for several hours. Many residents said they were shocked to learn that a violent crime had occurred so close to home, especially involving people who lived together.
Ankeny police say the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to review evidence and interview witnesses. Officials have not released details about a possible motive or the events leading up to the stabbing. Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Ankeny Police Department. Authorities say they remain committed to seeking justice for Sharon Jellue and supporting the community as it processes this tragic loss.
