74-Year-Old Sharon Cerullo killed in fatal Four-Alarm House Fire in Easton

EASTON, Mass. — Authorities have identified the woman who died in a devastating house fire that broke out last week in Easton. The four-alarm blaze, which drew a massive emergency response, claimed the life of a 74-year-old woman and caused extensive damage to a single-family home on North Main Street.

Officials said Sharon Cerullo, 74, died as a result of the fire that occurred on Jan. 8 at a residence located at 44 North Main St. First responders were initially dispatched to the home for a medical call, but the situation quickly escalated when firefighters encountered an active and rapidly spreading fire inside the house.

Fire crews from Easton and surrounding communities responded to the scene and worked for hours to bring the intense flames under control. Due to the severity of the fire, multiple alarms were struck, sending additional personnel and equipment to assist in battling the blaze and preventing it from spreading to nearby properties.

Once firefighters were able to safely enter and search the home, Cerullo was found inside a first-floor bedroom. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials did not release details about whether she was alone in the home at the time of the fire or if there were working smoke detectors inside the residence.

The cause and origin of the fire have not yet been determined. A comprehensive investigation is now underway involving several agencies, including the Easton Fire Department, Easton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities said determining how the fire started and how it spread will take time, as investigators carefully examine the scene and collect evidence. Fire officials are reminding residents of the importance of fire safety, including having working smoke alarms and clear escape plans. As the investigation continues, officials have not released additional information, but they said updates will be provided once more details become available.
