Phoenix Mother of Five Killed in Early-Morning Shooting; Suspect Dies After Police Pursuit

PHOENIX — A tragic act of domestic violence early Monday morning has left a young mother dead and the alleged suspect deceased, according to Phoenix police. Authorities confirmed that 30-year-old Selena Felix was found fatally shot in west Phoenix, a devastating loss that has shaken her family and the wider community just days before the holidays.

Police said officers responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, to reports of a shooting near the intersection of 71st Avenue and Pioneer Street. When officers arrived, they discovered a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures but were unable to save her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified as Selena Felix.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives determined the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle. Earlier that morning, at approximately 2:25 a.m., a Phoenix police officer attempted to stop a vehicle near 7th Avenue and Dobbins. Police said the driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a residence.

Emergency crews responded to the crash and removed an uninjured minor from inside the vehicle. Authorities confirmed the child was not hurt and was placed in the care of the Department of Child Protection. Police have not released the child’s age or further details to protect their privacy.

The suspect was transported to a hospital following the crash, where police said he later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was identified as 23-year-old Alexis Torres. Officials confirmed that no officers fired their weapons during the incident. Investigators believe the case is a murder-suicide, pending final findings.

Family members described Selena Felix as a loving mother of five, a devoted sister, and a woman who was deeply cherished by those around her. Relatives said she “violently lost her life at the hands of her partner,” leaving her children and loved ones heartbroken. A public fundraising account has been established to help support her children. Phoenix police extended condolences to both families and urged anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help, reminding the public that support resources are available.
