BATON ROUGE, La. — A tragic motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in East Baton Rouge Parish has claimed the life of a 43-year-old Gonzales man. Troopers with the Louisiana State Police responded to the deadly collision along US 61, just south of Jefferson Highway, where the crash occurred at approximately 2:42 p.m.
Authorities identified the victim as Samuel Wright of Gonzales. According to preliminary findings from investigators, Wright was traveling southbound on US 61 in the right lane while riding his motorcycle. He was reportedly behind a 2021 Kia Soul at the time of the incident.
Troopers say Wright accelerated to a high rate of speed before striking the left rear of the Kia. The force of the impact caused a violent collision that left little chance for recovery. The motorcycle crashed into the vehicle, and the devastating impact changed the course of several lives in a matter of seconds.
As a result of the collision, Wright was ejected from his motorcycle. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Wright later died from the serious injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver and passenger inside the Kia Soul suffered only minor injuries. They were evaluated following the incident, and authorities have not released further details about their conditions. The crash caused traffic disruptions in the area as troopers worked to investigate and clear the roadway.
Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Officials say the case remains active as they gather evidence and review all contributing factors. The tragic loss of Samuel Wright serves as another sobering reminder of the dangers on the road and the importance of safe driving practices for all motorists.
