Rocksprings High School Junior Dies in Tragic Accident Near School Track Area

The small community of Rocksprings is mourning the tragic loss of a local high school student who died after an accident on school grounds Sunday evening. Authorities confirmed that 17-year-old Samson Reyes, a junior at Rocksprings High School, lost his life in an incident involving equipment being moved near the school’s track area.

According to J.W. Guthrie of the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 5:32 p.m. on Sunday, March 7. Emergency responders were called to the campus after reports that a student had been seriously injured while people were working in the athletic area near the track.

Authorities said several individuals at the school were in the process of moving a large pole toward the track area when the accident happened. During the movement of the equipment, something went wrong, leading to a tragic situation that resulted in Reyes suffering fatal injuries. Officials have not yet released specific details about how the accident unfolded.

Despite efforts from those at the scene to respond quickly, Reyes was pronounced dead following the incident. Officials confirmed that several staff members from the Rocksprings Independent School District were present when the accident occurred. Fortunately, no other students or staff members were injured during the incident.

Investigators are now working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy. Authorities said they are collecting statements from people who were on the field at the time of the accident.
