CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a homicide that occurred Friday morning at a northwest Charlotte bank. Authorities said the victim, Ina Michelle Lang, 50, was shot and killed near a Bank of America on Callabridge Court around 10:30 a.m.
Police responded after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Lang deceased on the sidewalk near the ATM. The scene prompted a swift response from law enforcement, who began investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The suspect, identified as Sam’on Andrew Smith, 22, was taken into custody the same day. Officials did not release information about a possible motive. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and determine the events that led to the tragic death.
A witness told Channel 9 that shortly after the shots were fired, she saw a suspicious person leave the scene in a yellow Dodge Charger. Police used this tip to track a vehicle matching the description to a residence off Quail Street near Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
SWAT officers spent several hours at the Quail Street location, using a loudspeaker to call for the suspect to surrender. Authorities noted that the residence may be connected to the homicide, which occurred less than five miles from the arrest site. Police have said the investigation is ongoing as they collect evidence and interview potential witnesses.
The shooting has left the Charlotte community shaken. Police continue to urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation. Lang’s death serves as a reminder of the dangers that can occur in public spaces and the importance of swift law enforcement response in emergency situations. Authorities said updates on the case will be provided as they become available.
