VASSALBORO, Maine — A tragic crash on Route 3 in Vassalboro on Monday left a 48-year-old man from China dead, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety. The collision occurred in the afternoon and involved multiple vehicles, prompting a state police investigation.
Authorities said the crash happened around 3:40 p.m. near Ritch Road, when a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Ryan Page, 48, crossed the centerline of the road. The truck collided head-on with a Ford F-650 commercial truck driven by Douglas Boivin, 64, of Jay. Officials said Boivin attempted to steer to the right to avoid the collision but was unable to prevent the crash.
State police confirmed that Ryan Page succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Emergency responders pronounced him dead before he could be transported to a hospital. Boivin, the driver of the commercial truck, was uninjured in the crash.
Authorities also reported that a third vehicle, attempting to avoid the Silverado, swerved and struck a guardrail. The driver of that vehicle sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene. The vehicle came to rest on the roadway after hitting the guardrail.
Officials said the Maine Department of Public Safety is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that Page’s vehicle crossing the centerline was the primary cause, but investigators are reviewing all evidence, including road conditions, vehicle positions, and witness accounts.
State police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information to come forward to assist with the investigation. The crash serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of head-on collisions and the importance of staying alert while driving on busy routes such as Route 3.
