HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — Two young soldiers lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision early Saturday morning, leaving families and fellow service members grieving in both Fort Bragg and Pennsylvania. Authorities identified the victims as 22-year-old Romeo Mason Fleck of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and 21-year-old Charles Jackson of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on NC Highway 87 near Broadway Road. Investigators said the soldiers were traveling in a Toyota Camry when the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Chevrolet pickup truck. The impact was severe, and both Fleck, who was driving, and Jackson, who was seated in the back, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A third passenger riding in the Camry survived the crash but suffered critical injuries. Emergency crews rushed the injured soldier to Womack Army Medical Center for immediate treatment. Due to the seriousness of the injuries, the individual was later airlifted to another medical facility for advanced care. Authorities have not released the name of the survivor.
