GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — A domestic-related shooting inside a Garfield Heights home has left a 38-year-old man dead, according to police. The incident occurred on February 2 and is now under active investigation by the Garfield Heights Police Department.
Authorities identified the victim as Ramon Hamilton, 38. Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in Garfield Heights. When officers arrived, they found Hamilton suffering from gunshot injuries inside the home. Emergency responders provided aid before he was transported to Marymount Hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Hamilton later died from his injuries at the hospital, officials confirmed. Police have not released details about how many times he was shot or where inside the home the incident occurred. The residence was secured as detectives began processing the scene for evidence.
Garfield Heights Police Chief Mark Kaye said the shooting was domestic-related and involved family members. According to Chief Kaye, Hamilton was shot by another family member. That individual was taken into police custody shortly after the incident. Authorities emphasized that the situation was contained and there is no threat to the public.
At this time, no charges have been filed, and police said the investigation is still in its early stages. Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting, including whether it stemmed from an argument or other domestic dispute. Investigators are also reviewing statements from those involved and collecting physical evidence from the scene.
Police have not released the name or age of the family member in custody, nor have they shared details about the weapon involved. Officials said additional information will be released once the investigation progresses and prosecutors review the case.
