Motorcyclist Paul Creed Killed in Amelia Crash After Attempted Passing Maneuver

AMELIA, Ohio — Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a deadly motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon in Amelia. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the collision occurred on a rural roadway and involved a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, leaving one man dead and a teenage driver injured.

The crash happened around 4:13 p.m. on Chapel Road near State Route 132. Troopers said 37-year-old Paul Creed was riding a 1994 BMW motorcycle eastbound when the incident occurred. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle.

According to investigators, Creed attempted to pass another vehicle while traveling east on Chapel Road. During the passing maneuver, his motorcycle collided with a 2008 Saturn Astra that was traveling westbound. The Saturn was driven by a teenage driver, whose name was not released due to age.

The impact caused Creed to suffer severe injuries. Troopers said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released additional details about the exact sequence of events leading up to the collision or whether speed was a factor.

The teen driver of the Saturn Astra was wearing a seatbelt, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. That driver was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. Authorities did not say whether there were any passengers in the vehicle or if charges are being considered.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
